COVID-19 reduced the amount of visitors making it nearly impossible for elephant farms to afford food and care for their elephants. Seeing this struggle, I started a campaign on Facebook to bring attention to the issue and encourage people to help. The campaign focused on two farms, Maetaeng Elephant Park & Clinic and Patara Elephant Farm. Patara has always been a favorite of mine. It’s peaceful, surrounded by nature, and home to over 70 elephants cared for like family. The elephants roam freely, aren’t chained, and live as close to their natural state as possible. Every visit there is full of warmth and you can feel the love between the elephants and their mahouts. Thanks to the campaign, we raised enough money to help these elephants through the pandemic. The donations covered food and care, giving them the chance to live happily despite the difficult times. Knowing we made a difference for these incredible animals is something I’ll always be proud of.
